Operation Greenfly - Copthorne Burglary
Police have arrested a man in Birmingham following a burglary at a
detached house in Copthorne Road, Copthorne, in the early hours of Saturday
4th August.
A man in his forties, who was alone in the house, was woken by four
intruders demanding cash. The men, all wearing dark clothing, left him
tied to a chair and made off with his wallet and credit cards.
It was some time before he was able to telephone 999 - shortly before 6
am - to raise the alarm.
He was suffering from severe shock and was taken to hospital, where he
has been detained and is currently described as stable and improving.
DI Stuart Hale said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim,
who was threatened and roughly handled by his attackers. This is a
very unusual thing to happen in Mid Sussex and we take such offences
extremely seriously. Forensic and search trained officers have
conducted a thorough search of the area and we are following several good
lines of enquiry. We would like to appeal to anyone who heard or saw
anything untoward at the time to contact police, or if they witnessed
anything suspicious in the area at any time within the last week."
One man, aged 57, was arrested on the A38(M) in Birmingham on Saturday
4th August at around midnight and an address has been searched.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DI Stuart Hale on 0845 60 70
