Bolney Area Thefts
Between 5pm 28/1 and 10am 31/1 a red Lawnflite wood splitter was stolen from a yard in Wineham Lane while in Cuckfield Lane, Warninglid property grounds were entered and property damaged between 4pm 30/1 and 7am 31/1. Any info please to 101, serials 475 and 523 refer. [02-02-12]

Fuel Thefts
Over the weekend 7-8/1 fuel was taken overnight from parked vehicles in the Cuckfield and Ardingly areas by cutting fuel pipes. Where possible park in a well-lit area and in such a way as to frustrate access to your vehicle's fuel filling area. With the high price of fuel, fuel thefts are an ongoing problem, as it the theft of number plates to use in drive-offs from filling stations, so please be alert to such activity and report any suspicious behaviour promptly on 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress. On 7/1 at about 2am a man was assaulted while talking to two women outside Poison IV in Little King Street, requiring hospital treatment for head injuries. Haywards Heath Charity Bus Wheels Theft
The rear wheels from the Kangaroo disabled children's charity's green Ford Transit mini-bus were stolen sometime between 12.00pm 30/12 and 12.00pm 2/1. Lindfield Attempted Rape
In the early hours of 21/12 in Hickmans Lane a young woman was approached from behind by a man who forced her to the ground and tried to rape her before she managed to struggle free. The offender was around 6' with dark hair and clothing and had a local accent. Thefts From Vans
There's been a spate of tool thefts from vans in the Burgess Hill and surrounding area. Items such as chainsaws, hedge trimmers and drills have been stolen. Trades people are advised to remove tools from their vehicles and store securely when not in use, especially overnight. Haywards Heath Assault
On 25/11 at around 8.05pm a middle aged man suffered a neck wound when he was assaulted as he entered Orange Square bar in The Broadway. A 19-year-old man from Dartford was arrested at the scene and bailed until 21 January, 2012. Burgess Hill Fight
On 9/11 at around 2.45pm in Dunstall Avenue two males got out of separate vehicles and fought in the street. One was armed with an axe and the other made threats to kill and both were arrested at the time. This was during daylight in a very public place and witnesses are sought. Hassocks Break-ins
Overnight 17-18/11 the Mens' Club in Adastra Park was broken into which caused damage but nothing appears to have been stolen, serial 0238 refers. On the same night garages in Dale Avenue (next to Age Concern) were broken into; again damage was caused but nothing's been reported as stolen. On 15/11 sometime between 8.18 - 9.18pm an orange cased Sthil Pruner on an extended pole was taken from a vehicle parked in Monteswood Lane. In a separate incident on the same day a silver and black Mini Cooper S, reg: MW53 YFR was stolen from the Bent Arms pub in the high street between 4.45 and 6.50pm. Mid Sussex Metal Thefts
The high value of scrap metal has led to a serious increase in metal thefts. On 20/10 many homes and businesses in Haywards Heath were left without phones or internet when £8000 worth of copper cabling was stolen from a BT cabinet in Boltro Road; the incident took four days to fully restore services which severely impacted businesses in the area. In earlier incidents S. E. Water's pumping station near Balcombe suffered the loss of a large quantity of metal and cable on 15/10 and more cable was taken from Meadow View in Cuckfield on 13/10. Police are taking steps to combat the crime, but if you see any suspicious activity around places like railway yards, building sites and even street furniture call 999 immediately. [10-11-11]
