In the last few years it has
become increasingly difficult to maintain the Hassocks Neighbourhood
Watch website in the face of a diminishing level of support from the
main partner organisations: Mid Sussex Neighbourhood Watch, Sussex
Police, and indeed Hassocks Neighbourhood Watch itself. This has
been compounded by the inability of Neighbourhood Watch in Sussex,
including in Hassocks, to move operations forward with the times,
particularly in terms of social media engagement.
As a result the continuation of
this Hassocks NHW website has become unsustainable after 10 years of
operation.
The Mid Sussex
crime alert blog and
RSS feed (for easy mobile device access, scan
/save QR code shown right) is still continued for information about
current crime incidents. Neighbourhood Watch news for Hassocks
can be viewed in the Hassocks local area pages on the parent
Neighbourhood Watch website (see below).
For details of joining or starting a Neighbourhood Watch
scheme in Hassocks, or indeed elsewhere in Sussex, please visit the
official Home Office approved portal for Neighbourhood Watch, the
Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network - NHWN (OurWatch).
Step 1 - check if your Hassocks road already has a
Neighbourhood Watch scheme
Visit 'Your local area' and enter your postcode (or
just 'BN6' for Hassocks). If you see it listed on the left, click
it. Then on the right select 'Apply to join scheme' - or you can
send a message to the scheme coordinator if you prefer.
Step 2 - start a scheme in your road in Hassocks or
elsewhere
To start a new Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Hassocks or your area,
simply register your interest on the Neighbourhood
Alert system - just follow the simple directions (there's a video
tutorial to help). Once registered and approved you can pin your
scheme on the map, publicise it, post and receive messages, and freely
use the customisable publicity materials.
Please note that Neighbourhood Watch scheme(s) should only
be registered as above. There are unofficial outfits around which
may charge a fee.
