Data Link for the home...
Data Link is a voluntary scheme for anyone who feels vulnerable and
would be reassured to know that essential information is readily available
to the emergency services, should they suffer an accident or sudden
illness.
Data Link in the home takes the form of a simple to use information
recording system which is placed in the fridge. A sticker on the
fridge door and inside entrance door to the home informs the emergency
services that the resident is involved in the scheme and that medical and
contact information is available in the case of an emergency.
Why in the fridge? Should an incident occur in the
home causing damage, the inside of a fridge often survives intact for
longer.
Data Link for the car...
This scheme is based on the same principles as Data Link for the home,
but includes a photo of the member for identification, with stickers
placed on car windows, and the information stored underneath the passenger
seat sun visor. It is hoped that should there be an emergency, the
medical and other information provided could help the emergency services
save lives.
The scheme is explained very well in more detail at:

The scheme started originally in Australia and Canada and started in
the UK in Littlehampton in March 2000. It is gaining popularity in
many other places in the UK.
