Messages from Geoff Coe...
Geoff has now retired as MSNHWA Chairman.  The appointment of a replacement is awaited.

A meeting of our Association will be held on Tuesday 24th June 2008 at Haywards Heath Police Station at 7.30 pm.  Topics proposed to be covered include:

  • Publication/distribution of Members Handbook
  • Revision of coordinators database - including steps needed to recruit new coordinators and reinvigorate schemes
  • Mid Sussex Police working arrangements progress
  • Future publication of Watch Out
  • Sussex NHW Federation report
  • Marketing of items of safety hardware, etc
  • Other item suggestions welcomed

This is an important meeting as some of the matters are of significance to our future organisation and working.  Please advise of your attendance intention (required for security purposes). []

In the meantime, please take any action needed to ensure good communication with your local PCSO/NST.  This is key to ensuring that the new working arrangements are being implemented and we have just as much responsibility to aid that process as the police.  I hope that you will be able to report on your local situation at the meeting, or in advance if wished.

At the informal 'launch' of the Handbook in May we held a presentation to CPC Shirley Deakin who has left Mid Sussex Police after 13 years of service.  She has asked for the following message to be conveyed to you:

"It was with great sadness that I ceased to work for Mid Sussex NHW.  Over much of my thirteen years service I was half time, but with your support so much of excellence was achieved and I will always feel very proud of the strides we made.  My work was so special because of the warmth and friendship that I was given by so many of you with whom I worked and I thank you all for making this such a happy experience for me."

"I was very touched to receive a presentation from Geoff on your behalf, I am still pondering over the gift I shall buy, it will be an item to treasure for ever."

"I am not settled in a new role yet, it is difficult to find one that measures up to the satisfaction I felt at working in Mid Sussex."

"You all work so hard and voluntarily, particularly Geoff, everything you do is so appreciated.  I am sure you will go from strength to strength with your team of PCSOs."

Message from the webmaster...
The site's RSS Newsfeed and blog was launched at the end of September 2006.  Please see the What is RSS? page for details (now updated to reflect current status).

RSS technology is now mainstream for the rapid distribution of information electronically, helped on by the release of Internet Explorer 7 which has an integrated RSS reader, as do many other leading web browsers.

A number of national NHW and related websites have chosen to syndicate the feed from this site, thus allowing them to provide current crime alert messages on their site without any manual updating overhead.

Members Handbook
If you have not yet received copies for your members via your local PCSO, NHW area or street coordinator, there are plentiful supplies available for collection at your local police station's front office, eg Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and East Grinstead.  Please feel free to pick up a copy, or sufficient copies, for your NHW members at your convenience.

Alternatively it can be downloaded (in either PDF or ZIP format) from the news page.

Watch Out editions
Current and recent previous editions are carried on the Hassocks NHW website, the web address (URL) is: www.hassocksnhw.org.uk/watchout

General Messages...
